The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and will leave your floors spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Examine your robot's brush regularly for tangled debris and hair. Clean them as needed. Some models will also empty the dust bin on board and then deposit it in a larger bin at the bottom. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust that gets released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They have motors that are top of the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model) they employ smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great deal particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to provide better cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted room to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was superb and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and best robot hoover an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has 100% in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it's more expensive and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot automatic vacuum and mop robot and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, and cleans and dries the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For larger homes it's worth looking for models with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot vacuum cleaner to clean a particular area of your home using the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be useful if you have a large furniture. Finally, a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot autonomous vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd think from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto vacuum and mop-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. And you can set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, however it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
