It can drive close to walls and avoid steps without falling. It also automatically raises the mop when driving on short-pile carpets. It struggled a bit when it came across carpets with longer piles, and some thick, long piles of dried-on debris.

The S1 Pro is ready to go straight out of the box and it requires only an easy mapping session to discover your home. Once that's done the map is displayed in the app and rooms can be added or merged depending on the need. You can set virtual boundaries, as well as no-go or no-mop zones if there's something you don't want the robot to get into.
